Hawaii: Living on the Edge in Paradise?

During the summer of 2018, hundreds of earthquakes shook the summit of Kīlauea, leading to the active volcano’s largest eruption in 200 years. Lava totaling 1 billion cubic yards—enough to fill at least 320,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools—inundated 13.7 square miles of the island, destroying 716 dwellings and covering 30 miles of road.   For some residents it was catastrophic. Hawaiians see it as the goddess Pele’s way of creating new 'āina (land), 875 acres in total.

Kīlauea will erupt again, and PaceDocs filmmakers spent six days living in its shadow and gathering stories of faith, resilience, and unification. What they learned from the people of Hawaii is a lesson in the true spirit of Aloha.
